Recently, we introduced handmade saree collections. We have made many sarees in past couple of weeks. We have not uploaded all of them but we are very happy to show you the success of our first handmade saree. 

All handmade sarees are painstakingly made at our workshop in Chennai, India. The fist two sarees were sold within two days of making them live on the website. So, we are really happy right now

A major part of India is celebrating Vijayadashmi today. We at DesiCrafts are wishing all Indians who celebrate Dussehra or Vijayadashmi. May goddess Durga bring courage in your life and give you strength to fight for the right causes when necessary. 

Hello there! Long time no see? We are here finally. 

Have a look at this big basket of wooden printing block that just arrived to our workshop today. We are so excited and very ready to start listing them on our websites. To talk little bit about new collection, it is all about festivals, holidays and favours. A lot of printing is going to happen :) 

Kalamkari is the earliest and one of the most complex techniques of fabric printing using vegetable dyes and minerals. According to Wikipedia, Kalamkari or Qalamkari is a type of hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile, produced in parts of India. The word is derived from the Persian words kalam (pen) and kari (craftmanship), meaning drawing with a pen.

We found a very beautiful fabric in Chennai markets. Sadly, this pure brocade silk fabric wasn't available in large quantity so we bought all of it. And lovely quilted pillow covers were made.

The art of Bandhej or Bandhani is a highly skilled process requiring time and patience. This technique of dyeing fabric involves tightly tying textiles using wires, threads, stones, grains like cereals, rice etc.When fabric is dipped into color and allowed to dry, it gives miraculous results after un-tying it. 

The commercial cultivation of the silkworm is also known as Sericulture in scientific language. Production of silk through sericulture is a tedious process and involves many stages. 

Tasar is a type of pure silk is also known as Vanya (forest in hindi) silk because it involves a partial process of outdoor (forest) cultivation. A coarse yet valuable fabric for the manufacturing process it involves is very tedious and requires a lot of attention. Its beauty is not comparable to no other hand woven fabric or otherwise.
