Recently, we introduced handmade saree collections. We have made many sarees in past couple of weeks. We have not uploaded all of them but we are very happy to show you the success of our first handmade saree. 

All handmade sarees are painstakingly made at our workshop in Chennai, India. The fist two sarees were sold within two days of making them live on the website. So, we are really happy right now

Block Print Fabrics - Kalamkari Cotton

Kalamkari is the earliest and one of the most complex techniques of fabric printing using vegetable dyes and minerals. According to Wikipedia, Kalamkari or Qalamkari is a type of hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile, produced in parts of India. The word is derived from the Persian words kalam (pen) and kari (craftmanship), meaning drawing with a pen.

We found a very beautiful fabric in Chennai markets. Sadly, this pure brocade silk fabric wasn't available in large quantity so we bought all of it. And lovely quilted pillow covers were made.

New Arrivals Silk Pouches

For last couple of days, we've been working on these beautiful raw silk pouches. The process started with sourcing some stunning zip pullers. To give these pouches an Indian touch, we walked on the streets of very busy 'Chandani Chowk' in New Delhi - the capital of India. We found some very lovely handmade zip pullers, made by artisans of Rajasthan.

Sericulture in India | Silk Production | Types of Silks

The commercial cultivation of the silkworm is also known as Sericulture in scientific language. Production of silk through sericulture is a tedious process and involves many stages. 

Tasar is a type of pure silk is also known as Vanya (forest in hindi) silk because it involves a partial process of outdoor (forest) cultivation. A coarse yet valuable fabric for the manufacturing process it involves is very tedious and requires a lot of attention. Its beauty is not comparable to no other hand woven fabric or otherwise.
